Planting Trees and Native Plants in Pico Union

Date and time: October 6th 2023, 8:30 am-12:00 pm

Location: Pico Union Project

Description of Event:

On October 6, 2023, we partnered again with Pico Union Project (“PUP”) in Los Angeles, with the goal of planting California native trees and plants in the Pico Union neighborhood. A total of 30 trees and 78 native plants were selected and planted in two green spaces near Pico Union Project.

Volunteers included groups from Tesla, Warner Bros Discovery, and Amgen. Together, groups eagerly worked on picking up debris and preparing the soil for the native plants and trees.

Why?

For this event, trees were planted in the PUP community next to the 110 freeway. In urban areas, more than 50% of particulate emissions come from traffic. By implementing trees, we are helping clean the air from pollutants that can cause heart and lung disease, cancer, and increased mortality. BSLA is helping mitigate air pollution for members of the community, which includes the houseless community members of Pico Union.
