Native Garden at Norwood Street School
Date and time: March 18, 8:30 am-12 pm
Location: Norwood Street School
Description of Event:
On March 18, 2023, we partnered with Norwood Elementary School in Los Angeles, with the goal of developing a California native garden. A total of 266 native plants were carefully selected and planted in the project area.
Along with a diverse array of school community members, Tesla volunteers eagerly worked on building the garden. For many students, this was the first time they had ever taken part in the act of planting, an experience that would resonate with them throughout their lives.
Why?
The California native garden at Norwood Elementary School was an important project for both the community and the environment. It provided educational opportunities for students to learn about native plants, sustainability, and biodiversity, while also fostering environmental stewardship. The garden helped conserve water, supported local wildlife, and enhanced the school's aesthetic value. By involving a diverse group of community members, including students, parents, and volunteers, the project strengthened community bonds and offered students a meaningful hands-on experience that encouraged personal growth and a lasting connection to nature.
