Tree Planting in the City of Baldwin Park
With The Friends of the Ballona Wetlands
Date and time: January 27th, 8:30 am-12 pm
Location: A city located in the Central San Gabriel Valley
region of Los Angeles County.
Description of Event:
On January 27, 2024, we teamed up with the San Gabriel Valley Conservation Corps (SGVCC) and the City of Baldwin Park for a fantastic community project sponsored by Southern California Edison. It was our first event of the year, and volunteers planted a total of 32 trees on Ledford St and Frazier St in a Baldwin Park neighborhood – 10 native trees and 22 non-native trees. The tree selection was carefully done to avoid impacting the telephone wiring along the streets. This is the first time BlueSky LA hosted a volunteer event in a residential area, and this site was specifically chosen due to its proximity to the 10 and 605 freeways. City staff, including Mayor Emmanuel Estrada, volunteers from the Roland Center, and SGVCC, gathered to work together and provide shade and a beautiful canopy to community members.
Why?
The installation of trees serves as a proactive measure against respiratory issues. This approach is a well-rounded strategy, improving vulnerable communities' environment, health, and social aspects. This project has become crucial for safeguarding the health of vulnerable community members.
